A river flows through part of the village of Abdón Calderón, Ecuador, which can overflow and flood the village during heavy downpours. If it rains hard for a long time, you can find numerous men on the bridge above the river watching the river rise. From experience they know when to go to their families and prepare the house for flooding. Belongings and mattresses are placed as high as possible (for example on tables) so that the water does not reach them. At some point, however, even this is no longer enough.

At the moment the village is flooded. As a lot of houses are swamped with water, many families are now in need of emergency shelter. Our local team can help by providing mattresses to those in need.
