Current Situation

More than one third of the approx. 6.3 million inhabitants live in poverty. 25% of the population has no income or earns so little it is not enough to make ends meet. Since the end of the dictatorship under General Alfredo Stroessner in 1989, the country has seen several attempted coups and is still suffering from political instability.

Our Locations

Almost 50% of the population in Paraguay is younger than 19. One in five children has to work for more than 9 hours per day. 62% of the kids do dangerous labor, like producing construction materials and coal, as well as garbage recycling. Official statistics speak of 400,000 working kids in the country. Many of them have come to the nation's capital Asuncion from rural areas in hopes of finding a better life. There they have to work on highways and at street corners, in bus and train stations and in private homes. More often than not they have run away from home to escape abuse, violence, and hunger. We offer them a safe haven and a new home in Asunción.
