Special Fellowship

Ecuador

Every first Friday of the month, there is always a big dinner in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Everyone brings a bowl or pot of something homemade to eat to share at a fellowship dinner.

This is very unusual in the poor neighborhood of Balerio Estacio in Guayaquil. Normally, people in the neighborhood live for themselves and there is a strong distrust of others. The (now adult) daughter of one family told us that this is why they never had guests at home when she was a child. Through the on-site prevention project with workshops, vacation programs and adult education, they, like many other families, were able to learn to overcome this mistrust. Today, the families enjoy having fellowship with each other and inviting guests.
