Peru: Corona Emergency Aid via Smart Phone

While in some European countries the corona measures are gradually being eased, the curfews in South America are in force until at least the end of May. Because food packages cannot be distributed in Lima, Peru due to strict regulations, the local team has found another way to provide emergency corona aid.

In the slum area of La Victoria in Lima, many families turned to our workers in search of help when the Corona crisis broke out. Since they were deprived of the opportunity to do odd jobs and day labor, they were no longer able to support themselves. Our team did not have the option of distributing food parcels. Unlike in other project countries where our Corona emergency aid is carried out, the people in Lima are not allowed to collect rations due to the restrictive curfew and our team is not allowed to deliver them either. Therefore, our team came up with a different idea: They now provide mobile phone credits in the form of food vouchers. With these vouchers people can buy food and pay by mobile phone;

During the Corona crisis, we provide humanitarian aid to needy families, especially in Ecuador, Paraguay and Peru, and occasionally in Bolivia. We will continue this action as long as it is necessary. If you would like to support this, you can donate here
